President's Message
For everyone’s information, the next two Mondays are Public Holidays. The Club will be open as usual, but please note, there will be no manager onsite!
• Monday 2 June 2025 - Reconciliation Day
• Monday 9 June 2025 - Sovereign's (Kings) Birthday
Last Tuesday our Novice members played in the Australia Wide Novice Pairs event run by the Australian Bridge Magazine. This brought in huge numbers with 18 tables (72 players). The results will be published here https://www.australianbridge.com/AWP_results.php, but all results are provisional until 3 June to allow for corrections.
Overall, last Tuesday afternoon numbers were huge with 28 tables (112 players!) No wonder people couldn’t find a carpark…
For those closely watching the results of the Asia Pacific Bridge Federation Championships (APBF) which was held in Hefei China recently, you would know that the CBC was well represented. Jodi Tutty competed in the Women's team who finished a credible fourth. And George Kozakos in the Seniors team brought home a gold medal! The event concluded with Australia-New Zealand challenge matches in each division, and both teams were victorious in close finishes. Well done and congratulations to Jodi & George.
Last weekend the Wagga Bridge Club held their annual Congress and again was well attended by our members (around 30 I believe). The CBC was quite successful in their endeavours, and I really want to mention our two young members Jade Wilkinson & Alexis Wilsmore (our Australian Representatives - Under 21 team) who did us proud by winning the Novice Pairs. Well done ladies!
Congratulations to all of our winners…

I hope you are all enjoying the last few days of this beautiful Autumn weather. We had a small blast earlier this week of what we know is coming - yes, Winter is arriving this Sunday! Don’t forget (with our new aircon) we have a lovely warm Clubroom where you can all enjoy your favourite game - bridge! 😊

Message from the Committee
Saturday Afternoon Face to Face Bridge
Following two weeks of cancelled sessions due to insufficient numbers, the Committee will be suspending Saturday afternoon Face to Face Bridge with a view to reinvent the Saturday offering or provide an alternate service to our Saturday players. Saturday afternoon RealBridge will be unaffected.

The Club will be hosting a Youth Fundraising Congress for Jade Wilkinson and Alexis Wilsmore on Sunday 22 June.

- Correction: The date for the event below is the 22nd June and not 22nd of July as advertised in our last newsletter.
Club Charity Nominations
Each year the Committee considers nominations from members for a new charity for the next financial year. Proceeds from fundraising events and the produce table all go towards supporting the charity. Lighter Moments
- I start my new job as a cleaner today. There's no training. You just pick it up as you go along.
- I think I want a job cleaning mirrors. It's something I could really see myself doing.
- Do you know which chore sucks the most? Vacuuming.
- Do you know who cleans the bottom of the ocean? A mer-maid.
In my own dictionary of lost words, I've come up with a self proclaimed pronoun - "bridge-maid". Quotation: "While the bridgemate is busy calculating the scores, the bridgemaid is intent on reorganising the clubroom".
If you were wondering where all the cushions have gone, they are now located under the TV.
The big pile of lost systems cards are currently being sorted alphabetically by Rosemary Matley who I cannot stress this enough has VOLUNTEERED for the job.
All the unclaimed stuff on the lost property table (NOT "properties" as the sign says, pointed out to me by a native as a grammatical error though I dispute this - there are clearly many items on the table! ) will be taken to charity early next week.
Nameslips have also been relocated, they now live in the new director's shelves.
Please note that the big bin in the kitchen is for general waste. Milk bottles, 10c recycling cans, lids and glass bottles are to be placed in the designated boxes. Paper waste can be thrown in the blue box underneath the director's table.
Have a great long weekend everyone!
