Skills development workshops

These lessons are aimed at regular duplicate players who wish to extend their knowledge and skills. You can choose to go to one or all of the lessons.

The lessons will be run by our own, well renowned teacher Will Jenner-O'Shea.

  • Make a few small changes to your system to improve your results  
  • How to evaluate close decisions better  
  • Learn to be more conservative in some auctions, and more aggressive in other auctions  
  23 March     10am - 3pm     Defensive card techniques, card placing, and counting tricks 
  • Using logic and some conventions to help you defend better  
  • Work out where missing honours are  
  • Opening leads and mid-game leads (what to lead back)  
  • Interpret your partner's opening lead  
  • Count Declarer's tricks, and the defenders' tricks  
  20 April     10am - 3pm     Solid suits, strong suits, decisive bidding  
  • Opening and overcalling at the four- and five-level  
  • Opening 2C and further bidding  
  • Hand evaluation beyond HCP and length  
  • Handling competitive bidding  
  • The "gambling 3NT"  

 
Details

  • You will play around 20 boards. Each hand has an interesting play and/or defence tip, and all hands are discussed in detail, both bidding and playing. An excellent booklet of the lesson content is included.
  • Participants are welcome to book as singles, partnerships, and tables of four.
  • A delicious morning tea and a light lunch are included. Dietary requirements are accommodated.

Cost

  • $50 per member, $55 per non-member, $30 for under 30's
