The Australian Bridge Federation runs an annual Grand National Open Teams event, bringing in teams from all over Australia to a RealBridge weekend playoff in September and a National grand final in November.

Tuesday is Competition night

The Club holds competitions for stronger players on Tuesday evenings, from 7.15pm to around 10.15pm. This session is best suited to experienced players and to developing players looking to master their game.

The competitions include the Club’s many honour board titles, and BFACT’s State-level events. They include Butler pairs, matchpoint pairs and teams competitions.  They are generally multi-week, and offer red or gold masterpoints.  As a result, table money is higher than other sessions.  Pre-entry is required via MyABF.   Competitions are held at the clubrooms (except that in winter, they are held on RealBridge).

If there are evenings when you are not available for a competition that you have entered, it is your responsibility to find a substitute.  The managers can assist with finding a substitute, as well as partners or team mates.

A few Tuesday evenings have no game scheduled, due to clashes with national events or the Christmas break.

RED Masterpoint competitions

This year the Club is introducing new RED Masterpoint events, to give all players the opportunity to earn red and gold masterpoints. To be promoted to State Master or beyond, you need at least 25 red masterpoints, as well as your green masterpoints.

Over the next few months, some red and gold point multi-week daytime events will be held, to give all players the chance for masterpoint promotions.

  • If you play with the same partner over the three weeks, your cumulative score will determine your final place . The winner will be recognised.
  • No pre-entry is required. The table money is the same.
  • Master points awarded for 3/3 scores or 2/2 for RB

        • For those who have never played bridge or have very limited experience with the game, our 6 week Beginners course introduces bridge from the very beginning.
  • Fundamental
      •  For those who know the basics of bridge but are not yet ready to play a social game of bridge, our  8-week foundation course will cover what you need. This course may be suitable for people returning to bridge after a long break.
  • Supervised
      • This program will assist people who want to move from being able to play a social game of bridge to playing a standard duplicate.  This may include, social bridge players wanting to take up bridge, and people returning to bridge. Lecture Notes and Schedule for the Supervised series are available here.
  • Refresher course
        • Suitable for people who have gone through the Supervised program, or social players or people returning to bridge after a break who want to refresh or update their skills. These lessons assume a higher level of knowledge than those in the supervised program.
