President's Message

Welcoming Our New Beginners

This week we are delighted to welcome a new group of players as our next round of beginner lessons gets underway. Introducing new players to bridge is vital to the future of our Club, and we thank Barb and the teaching team for the time, care and enthusiasm they bring to the program.
You may notice a little more activity during lesson times, and on occasion there may be some minor room adjustments to ensure everyone can be comfortably accommodated. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding if this occurs.
Please make our new players feel welcome - you may well see them progressing into supervised sessions, and regular play over the coming months.

2026 Australian Women’s Playoff

The Club recently hosted the Australian Women’s Playoff, and we are pleased to congratulate one of our members Judith Tobin on an excellent result! Judith and her partner placed second in the event, earning selection to represent Australia. This is an outstanding achievement, and on behalf of all members we congratulate Judith and wish her every success in representing Australia.

Call for Volunteers

The Club relies heavily on volunteers to ensure that activities run smoothly and that members continue to enjoy a welcoming and well-organised environment. Your willingness to give your time, energy and expertise will be very much appreciated.

Beginner's class teacher helpers

Do you have time on Wednesday mornings 10:30am - 12:30 or Wednesday nights 7:30-9:30pm to help our teachers during either the beginners or fundamentals lessons? It would usually be only once or twice every 6-8 weeks depending on available number of volunteers. Duties involve:

  1. making up a table of 4,
  2. ensure everyone has ticked their name at the start.
  3. help with the bidding, leads, etc
  4. answer general questions arising after the lessons

House Sub-Committee – Seeking Expressions of Interest:

We are now seeking expressions of interest from members who may like to be involved in the ongoing care of our clubrooms. The House Sub-Committee generally focuses on maintenance and improvements, gardening, keeping an eye on the premises, and occasionally helping organise working bees. The Sub-Committee works closely with the Manager and provides advice and recommendations to the Committee as needed.

If you would like to know more about what is involved, or if you would like to put your hand up to be considered for the House Sub-Committee please get in touch with me, I would love to hear from you.

Washing Tea Towels

Every week the tea towels are washed and brought back to the club by our volunteers. The load is generally small with only a couple of tea towels and the occasional table cloth if someone has spilt something and there's no hurry to bring them back, you can take a week or two to drop them off.

Please contact Elizabeth next time you are at the club  - first in best dressed!

New Players

Canberra Bridge Club welcomes the following new and returning player:

  • Sandra Filler

Friday Morning Intermediate & Novice Bridge Session

Do you and your partner have fewer than 200 Masterpoints between you?

And are you looking for another session to play bridge?

Why not join us on Friday mornings 9:30 am for our dedicated intermediate bridge session? We play 24 boards each session and usually finish by 12:30pm.

At the same time, we also run a dedicated Novice's bridge session for partnerships where the partners have fewer than 20 Masterpoints between them. Most people in the Novice's session are starting their bridge journey and have just finished Supervised program.

Wednesday Night Pizzas

The Wednesday night pizzas provide the opportunity for social interaction while enjoying a pizza sampling. It provides a great opportunity to talk to and socialise with your fellow players, which is not always the case when engaged in playing bridge.

  • 29th  April - 6:30pm
  • $5 payable on the day for half a pizza

Those wishing to partake should place their name on a list on the noticeboard or contact Jon Pike directly. His email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or mobile 0414 272 778.

Playing bridge while eating freshly baked scones is a match made in heaven.  You can do this once a year at CBC at the SCONGRESS.  Put Sunday 17 May in your diary! This is a fundraising event for ACT's International players to help pay for their flights and accommodation.

There will also be a raffle with some excellent prizes.  Your support will assist the next generation of bridge players!

Lighter Moments

1.         I moved houses, my furniture stayed sarcastic

2.         Movers lift boxes, my back protested

3.         I asked my couch for help, it sat

4.         Moving day: chaos with a label machine

5.         Even the boxes whispered “good luck”

6.         I packed snacks first, sanity followed later

7.         My fridge moved faster than me

8.         Moving trucks love heavy gossip

9.         I tried unpacking, got distracted by jokes

10.       Tape and scissors staged a rebellion

Everyone seems to know which one of our directors has taken the week off work to move houses (again).

Hope everything went OK! (Literally.. hope everything went, OK?)
