From the President:

Thank you very much to the wonderful Travel Associates team who came to the club last Monday. We very much appreciate their generous support of our club.

Please see below for the winner in the draw and for details of how to access their service.

Peter Giles has worked hard to organise this support. Thank you also to Mary Tough, Ian Robinson, Michele Grant, Simon Grant, Bruce Crossman and Kerry Butcher for helping to handle the large number of players.

A willing, cheerful and competent team – Justine Beaumont, Ross Crichton, John Donovan, John Hanks, Geoff Hayes, John Hempenstall, Margaret Kyburz, Tim Mather, Patricia McDonald, Marilyn Miller, Paul Nelson, David Thompson, Ian Thomson, Bill Tutty, Jodi Tutty, Len Van Der Hor, Liz Van Der Hor, Niek Van Vucht and Susan Walters -- did a great job setting up the playing areas for the Summer Festival.

I also thank two of the other bridge clubs in Canberra, South Canberra BC and Capital BC, who have cheerfully provided us with backup equipment recently when we have needed it.

Thinking of everyone in the bridge community and beyond who are having such a devastating time in the fires,

Happy New Year,

Pam

If you renew by direct deposit, please ensure to check and update our bank account details that will be included on the renewals email.

Help Needed

Good-hearted members of this club help every year to set up the rooms for the Summer Festival of Bridge. The club is remunerated for those efforts.

We would appreciate the assistance of many volunteers on Tuesday 7 January at about midday at the Rex Hotel, Northbourne Avenue.

On Thursday 16 January at about 6.30pm we need to reverse the process Please emailThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are able to help.

Meurine Thomas was the lucky winner of the magnificent travel prize, donated by Travel Associates, airfares for two and accommodation in Tokyo. Sue Hegarty won second prize, a $200 travel voucher. Our new sponsor, Travel Associates, has 5 different shopfronts in the ACT. Members, their friends and family can deal with any shopfront. Would you like to learn more about how Pianola can best serve you?

Rick Nehmy will run a session on Monday 20 January and repeat it on Wednesday 22 January from 9.15am to 9.45am in the Olive Lott Room at the Club. It will be a step by step run through of the basics and projected on the TV screen.

It’s not essential, but if you have one, please bring your internet enabled device to whichever session suits you better

Watering

One of the very necessary jobs in the club, increasingly so, is watering our plants. We appreciate Gordon McAlary, who does this superbly on Mondays. Is there someone who could do this before or after they play on Thursdays?

Relationships are a lot like algebra: have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y?
