Going Green at CBC

You will notice signs around the club encouraging you to “go green”. It simply asks you to separate paper and plastic when discarding rubbish and place into the appropriate bins. Please note that plastic wrap, plastic bags.... and even the plastic biscuit wrappers go into the plastics bin. Bottles, tins etc can go into the general recycling bin. Tea bags and food scraps are to go into the compost bin. So let’s make a big effort and support going green at CBC.

FROM MY DESK ...................

Many of you will remember that the Canberra Bridge Club (CBC) used to host an annual Spring Congress in late September. The Club agreed to give this up to facilitate the Bridge Federation of the ACT (BFACT) establishing the Canberra in Bloom Bridge Festival which has now been running for several years.
In return the CBC and some other Canberra Bridge Clubs receive a dividend from BFACT. To date this has totalled in excess of $3,000 for the CBC.
Members of the CBC recently spent quite a few hours dealing boards to be used at the Australian National Championships (ANC) in July. This was volunteer labour and while we were not paid directly, we will receive another “dividend” from BFACT, representative of a percentage of the anticipated profits, in the future. This will be paid to the CBC directly once all the financial details for the ANC are finalised.
I strongly recommend that any of you who are able to do so, play in an event at the ANC. There are events for all levels of players, from novice to the more experienced. It is a once in eight year opportunity to play in the event at home and provides access to lots of bridge.
Enjoy your bridge.
