Good bye Friday Evening Bridge at CBC

Friday 7 April was the last Friday Evening of Bridge at the Canberra Bridge Club. It was very a pleasant evening. There were seven tables which was a huge improvement on two or three. There was a very nice supper after the sessions with several members contributing goodies along with the club supplying drinks.

It would be great if Wednesday evenings could build up to seven plus tables. So please consider coming to Wednesday evenings so that that session can continue.

May is Mentoring Month

If you are a beginner who would like some help to improve your game, or a mid-level player who wants help to move to the next level in bridge, the club invites you to apply for a mentor during May. Each mentee will be provided with a suitable mentor as partner for 2 sessions of bridge. The mentor will generally play the mentee’s system. The mentee pays the table money.

If you are a friendly more experienced bridge player who is available to play 2 sessions during the month with a club member we would like to sign you up as a mentor.

Please complete the application located under the screen and put it in the box provided. Applications close on 28 April. Contact Liz Van Der Hor on 62883031 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for any inquiries.

Past President’s Small Corner

Dear Members

A very big thank you to our members who travelled to Ballarat for the Festival of Bridge from Wednesday to Saturday last week. We had 8 of our members and two from Capitol with various family members attending. The weather was autumn at its best, lots of flowers still out at the Botanic Gardens.

CBC came away well represented amongst the winners, Claire Hughes and Cathi Bywater a 1st in a restricted event, Jim Collier and myself surprising ourselves with a 1st and two 2nd.

The Ballarat Club with 150 members did a wonderful job of hosting the event, lots of lovely food, very good directing, everything on time and a great feeling of fellowship extended to ourselves and visitors from other clubs.
I am encouraging the Ballarat Club to attend the Canberra in Bloom Congress from Friday 29th Sept to Monday 2nd of October. I will be planning a range of tourist activities likely commencing on Thursday 28th.

It would greatly facilitate a good attendance by the club if some of our members were prepared to billet people. This occurred last year with great success and a number of friendships have been formed.
Members may not be aware, that the more attendees at the congress the more money comes back to CBC from the profits. So this process very much helps us. Please contact myself or our managers if you can assist.

A line for the week:
