Bridge Beginner Lessons 2017 – members please promote
These lessons commence on Monday 6 February 2017 at 7.00pm and Thursday 9 February at 10am. The fee is $72 for seven weeks of lessons. You may like to consider getting a voucher for these lessons from the club for someone near and dear.
Please let likely persons know about our upcoming lessons. We also have small brochures you can letter box drop in your neighbourhood.

Supervised Sessions

Arrangements Supervised Sessions in January
The Supervised sessions continue as usual, but without a lesson preceding play. A volunteer from the club will be in attendance to give advice, answer questions and help you as much as you need. In other words, you will be there to play your normal duplicate Supervised session.
For this reason, the Thursday time will change, and you will begin duplicate at 10am. It is polite to arrive by 9.45, so the Director can plan the movements for the whole session.

The duplicate/play and lesson sessions will commence on Monday 6th February and Thursday 9th February 2017.

An exception is Thursday 26th January: As this is a public holiday. For this day, we suggest you still come along, and play in one of the other duplicate movements.
We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to play in these sessions over the summer period.

Barb, Ann & Jeanette look forward to seeing you in February.

Sean Mullamphy

It is great to see out long serving head director Sean back at the club playing a few daytime sessions lately and getting terrific winning percentages.

President's Corner

Week 14 – 5/01/2017
CBC, the Centre of Bridge in Canberra

Dear Members

The Committee, our wonderful Managers, Directors and myself would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope you have great health and even better bridge throughout 2017.

Already there is much underway on the bridge calendar for the year. Apart from our own sessions of bridge this week, other events will be held in our premises and there will be more people around both this coming weekend and the weekend after.

This Saturday (7th), Youth Week commences and again CBC will be hosting the event. It will be held in the Olive Lott room. I expect the money we raise from hosting this event will go a long way towards the cost recovery of the new air-conditioning recently installed in the Olive Lott room.

On Friday the 13th there may well be some minor disruption whilst equipment is unloaded to support the finals that will be played at CBC on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th. My plan is to have everything out of the way before our regular session on Friday. The finals will be played in the Barry Turner room on Saturday and Sunday.

The normal Friday (13th) afternoon bridge will be played in the Barry Turner room and the normal Saturday afternoon session will be played in the Olive Lott room. Please don’t think that playing in the Olive Lott room is a second prize. We now have new to us, “padded chairs” and very effective a/c installed. You may well find the Olive Lott room more comfortable on very hot days.

Lines for this week:

• Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

• I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people who annoy me.

Happy Bridging

Peter Giles
