Dear Members,

Our AGM is Tuesday 27th September at 5 PM. Please come along and support your committee. Nibbles and drinks after the meeting and stay on and play. Your committee deserves your support.

I would like to thank all members of our committee for their commitment, dedication and very hard work over the last 12 months. It has been a great committee and much has been achieved. I can’t thank you all enough. A number of current committee members are calling it a day so some are going and with some new nominations for next year. This is a great outcome as in my view, committees need to refresh on a regular basis.

I would like to thank the many members who have phoned, emailed and enquired about my health in respect to my recent surgery. It has been no picnic however, thankfully I am now on the mend.

Starting Friday 30th September, we have the Canberra in Bloom Congress. We also have a return visit from the Ballarat Bridge Club occurring on that weekend. On the Friday afternoon, the Ballarat group will be playing at the Club. If you are a Friday afternoon player, please go the extra yard to make our guests welcome. Some may play in other CBC sessions but most will be playing in the Canberra in Bloom Congress. Most will be aware that a group of us visited the Ballarat Club earlier in the year and also the Cooma Club. I am hoping that these visits become a regular feature of the club’s calendar and also include Cootamundra.

As I mentioned the other week, the commission arrangement with Flight Centre remains in place. The club receives our commission in the form of vouchers. If anybody has travel coming up, you can assist us by purchasing the vouchers from the office and using them to pay on your holiday. The commission process is worth close to $5K to us so very much a worthy process. I am currently discussing next year’s arrangements with Flight Centre.

Nothing much has occurred on the CBC Cook Book project. However, over the next few weeks I expect to make some progress on that. In the meantime, you can pull out your great recipes.

A few lines to finish with:
• In the front yard of a Funeral Home: Drive carefully. We'll wait.
• Sign on the back of a Septic Tank Truck: - Caution - This Truck is full of Political Promises
Hope to see you at the AGM

Happy Bridging

Peter Giles
