Newsletter - 3 May 2018

From the President:

Trash To Treasure stallSome club members had a busy weekend.

Janet Kahler and her helpers, Sue Game, Susie Ryrie, Di Hawke, Judith Anderson, Bill Tutty, Jodi Tutty, Jeanette Harper, Elizabeth Havas and Adrienne Stephens, ran a Trash and Treasure stall at Fyshwick raising $1500+ for the club. A great result for their very hard work. Janet will be pleased to reclaim her lounge room.

Thank you very much to them all and to the club members who so kindly donated the goods.

Janet and her crew also promoted the Canberra Bridge Club and our next set of Beginners lessons.

Back at the club, Pete Hollands and Laura Ginnan, ran wonderful bridge workshops. Thank you very much to Perelle Scales for her work organising this; and to BFACT for financial support. See more further down in the newsletter.

Best wishes,

Skills Workshop 28 & 29 April

The workshops run by visiting teachers Laura Ginnan and Peter Hollands were well attended. Those attending – 47 on Saturday and 32 on Sunday – were impressed and left the workshops looking forward to being able to apply their new skills during regular sessions.

April Skills WorkshopTwenty two attendees stayed and played the regular Saturday afternoon session, with two players winning (names drawn from a hat) the chance to play with Laura (won by Barbara Langeveld from Moruya) and Peter (won by Grant Wickman from CBC).  Following the session Laura and Peter discussed several hands from the points of view of the direction in which they played. This was very informative.

Most of the attendees were from CBC but several from regional clubs, including Bateman's Bay and Moruya also attended and commented that they were very grateful for the invitation as smaller clubs find it very difficult to fund visiting experts.

Thanks go to Patricia McDonald (who helped with dealing the practice boards) Chris Sheen, Anne Baldwin, Jeanette Graham, Richard Hills and Pam Crichton for their assistance on Saturday and especially to Laura and Peter for their expertise and willingness to assist any and every body.
