From the President:

More than one hundred people played in the Valentine’s Day Congress last Sunday. Thank you very much to Patricia McDonald and Mary Tough for organising the food and to Di Hawke, Claire Marlow, Adrienne Stephens and Erin Tewes for their help in that area. Heather and Clive Kirkby did the essential job that is hard to fill – the Costco run. The slice makers – John Donovan, Ros Hinton, Claire Marlow, Patricia McDonald, Jenny Nairn, Judy Netting, Anne Powell, Nikki Riszko - excelled themselves. The clean-up team was boosted with Brett and Jennifer Yeats, Michele Grant and Chris Tough.

Bruce Crossman was, as usual, a calm, competent and efficient director. I appreciate those who were willing to be on standby to ensure there were no glitches.

Please read the notice below regarding carpark arrangements for the installation of solar panels.

Best wishes,

IMPORTANT: Solar installation - Monday 18 February onwards

The Solarhub installation will begin at 7am on Monday 18 February.

On Monday they will need a space of 6 carparks (2 x 3) in the front carpark facing Duff Place, at the left hand end (that is the Gym end).

PLEASE DO NOT DOUBLEPARK IN THAT AREA, as a truck will be delivering panels and will need access to that area.

From Tuesday we expect that Solarhub will only need 4 carpark spaces.

Please consider car pooling for the next week or so.

Many thanks for your cooperation.

Lighter Moments

My wife just called me lazy and said I’d better have something planned for Valentine’s Day. I said, “Yes, I was thinking of taking the Christmas decorations down.”

Changes to the Seniors ANC trials

After the seniors trials in 2018, BFACT received feedback that there were too many entries to have a fair trial over a weekend and that the number of boards played on the Saturday in particular was excessive. The issue was considered and the trials will be held in the using the format below.

If there are 12 or fewer entries, the format will be the same as previous years with a final only held on the weekend of the 26 – 28 April 2019, playing eleven fourteen-board rounds over the three days.

If there are more than 12 entries, there will be a 2-session qualifying event held over two Monday evenings on 8 and 15 April 2019. Ten pairs will qualify for the finals. The exact format of the qualifying will depend on the number of entries, but will likely involve two fields with five qualifying from each field. If seeding is required, senior directors who are not playing in the event will undertake it. The final will involve nine fourteen board rounds played over three days, two sets on Friday evening, four sets on Saturday and three on Sunday.

Pre-entry is required and entries will close on Thursday 5th April 2019 at 8pm.
