Newsletter - 21 June 2018

From the President:

Thank you to those who attended the Lend Lease presentation. I appreciate you giving up your time and hope you found it interesting. The club has benefitted from your attendance. Please talk to me if you want to know more about their planned new development in Narrabundah.

We are always grateful to our teachers, in recent years Barb, Jeanette and Ann, who assist people to learn and enjoy bridge. As a result of their endeavours and the work of past committees, the Canberra Bridge Club has been featured as Club of the Month in the ABF Teachers update.

Best wishes,

Newsletter day of publication to change

From July the newsletter will be issued on Friday.

This will work better for us administratively as the managers are changing the days on which they work.

Reserving Seating

The committee has discussed this issue again recently.

Please note that players, if they are in the club, can reserve a place at a table for themselves and their partner ONLY.

To do so they MUST write their names on the payment envelope on the table (to prevent a pair reserving 2 tables, and thereby giving the directors problems).

However, you are NOT to reserve tables for friends who are not present.

The managers will only organise reservations for those with serious disabilities.

Reflections on directing and directors

The club has 3 national level directors, 3 state directors and a half dozen club directors, all of whom are generous with their time for minimal pay and who encounter a series of problems from dealing (pun intended) with a cranky computer scoring program to washing up to 150 cups and glasses at the end of the session.

Let’s show them we appreciate them.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Barb Toohey’s son, Jeff, this week. I have heard that he was a lovely friendly man, who excelled in cycling and triathlons. We all send our heartfelt sympathy and best wishes to Barb and her daughter.

Community Announcement

Flutracking is an online survey, run by the Australian Department of Health and the NZ Ministry of Health, which asks volunteers if you have had fever or cough in the last week. The survey takes just 10-15 seconds to answer and is sent via email each week during the usual influenza season (May to October).
