Systems, Conventions and Regulations.

This Page is under construction. It is hoped eventually it will contain a complete description of regulations governing conventions and systems in walk-in pairs and the various club events. It is hoped also to make it accessible via its own link.

It is intended also include the regulations and conditions of contest for the more important events run by the club on this page..

Policy on Systems and Conventions

The Club follows the ABF policy on these matters.
The Club's position was detailed fairly fully in a recent newsletter.
This newsletter can be found here.
The relevant article starts on page 5.
The following is abstracted from that article.

"CBC Policy on Bidding Systems.
The following regulations apply to CBC walk-in sessions and CBC events:
A pair playing in a walk-in session at the Club cannot use a highly unusual system. The pair also cannot use conventions, which are referred to as "Brown Sticker" conventions in ABF regulations. These are multi-meaning pre-emptive bids that do not guarantee a specific suit. They include myxo twos and RCOs. There is one exception - the European multi-2¨, whose only weak option is to promise an unspecified major. Normal weak twos and a convention such as 2¨ showing a weak hand with 4-4 or better in the majors guarantee a specific suit and hence are not Brown Sticker conventions. If you have any doubts about whether your bidding system is permissible, consult your Director.

In the case of events conducted by the CBC, ABF system classification regulations will apply unless otherwise specified in the CBC Regulations for the event. The ABF regulations can be viewed on the ABF website. CBC regulations are posted on the notice board.

In effect, this means that the some two openings cannot be used in club pairs events and walk-ins. They are normally permitted in teams events and Butler Pairs.

The intent of the policy is to make bridge an enjoyable experience for our members. Some members will disagree but if you are keen to try to test out your favourite bidding convention why not participate in one of the teams events run at the Club. "

The ABF position can be found here.
There is a link there to the WBF policy.
